Here's what you need:
  • Full_Website
  • Shown_Text

You have three ways to make a link:
  1. Use DA's Media toolbar (codefree method):

    1. If you're commenting or editing an artist's description, click on the "+Add Media" button on the bottom of the text field that looks like below, to start the Media toolbar:

      addMedia by craftysorceress

    2. Click on the following Link button in the Media toolbar on top of the page, highlighted in pink below:

      toolbarH by craftysorceress

    3. Type in the Full_Website in the URL box, and Shown_Text in the Title box. Press OK when you're done:

      Url by craftysorceress

    4. It will look like: Shown_Text

  2. OR Type code:

    1. Your template that you type keystroke-by-keystroke is:

      • <u><b><a href="Full_Website">Shown_Text</a></b></u>

      • It will look like: Shown_Text

  3. OR, copying-pasting-deleting code:

    1. Alternatively, you can copy and paste the template below:
    • < u>< b>< a href ="Full_Website">Shown_Text</b></u>
    1. Delete the space after every "< "

    • It will look like: Shown_Text, same result as method #2.

Coding Example:

(Using method #2, typing code)

As an example, if had:
Shown_Text=CraftySorceress's Portfolio

Then, i will type in:

<u><b><a href="">CraftySorceress's Portfolio</a></b></u>

And it will appear like:

CraftySorceress's Portfolio
Here's a quick template to insert links to any DeviantArt text, including Comments and Artist's Comments. Whenever I'm thanking someone for a favorite, I like to use this template.

This is based on HTML, so if you know HTML, this is probably way too simple for you. I posted this as a quick reference for me so I don't haveto retype it every time, and for others that may not know html, but want a normal html effect.

Let me know if you're interested in me making an html link generator you can copy 'n paste.

Update: I'm struggling to show html code on DeviantArt, and I can't seem to find an easy way to do this, shy of posting an image. (But that isn't helpful for copy/pasters)

Update 2: HUGE thanks to :iconneocoolstar: for figuing the above update up. If you want general HTML info, please check out her tutorial here.

Update 3:
  • Simplified the example for ease of understanding.
  • Since I saw many people copy-and-paste the example and fail because of text, I made it clearer in the tutorial that one either has to type in the code manually, or copy and paste some other code, then delete spaces.Hopefully that clears up a ton of confusion.
  • Added the GUI method provided by the Sta.shWriter Media toolbar. This is the easiest, codeless method to do it, but the HTML code method is still worthwhile, with the result looking like a link.

everytime i try to link a page (i write comics and its is very important to provide before and after links) all it does is put a thumbnail of whatever the link leads to. Then when I publish the deviation its a failed code. I am getting very aggravated with these new interface tweaks and don't know if I will be able to use dA to host my webcomics if a simple function such as linking becomes unusable.

yes I am having the exact same problem, and I have not at all been able to find a solution to this exact problem. It's very frustrating

I managed to (barely) fix it by opening whatever link I needed in a new tab, then adding a space in a random spot, like before the '.com'. Then I copy that and paste, and remove the space. It doesn't create a link unfortunately but it's allowed me to at least leave a valid URL for viewers to copy & paste.

I am getting really irritated with all of the new unnecessary features :I

Actually someone told me that all you have to do is when you are editing you hold your mouse over the picture, and where it says link in the corner you click that and it turns it into a link.

im failing to see this option, the thumbnail seems to only have an "x" in the corner to delete it. I've tried the "Add Media" option to add a link that way and it gives me the same exact result :/

You should be seeing this when you put your mouse over the thumbnail

how terribly unfortunate. The comic strips I use for my series are very long and skinny so the only button that appears is the 'X' in the corner. :( I have yet to find a way around this. Thanks for the explanation.

wow you should tell DeviantArt about that, that is a huge mess up on their part x(
